Mid-Century Copper Art

Currently, I have this vintage, mid-century hammered copper wall art, for sale.

The stylised ram, sculptural piece measures 91.5 x 56 cm. It is a quality heavy piece, signed 'Glover'.

It does have patina, light verdigris due to its age. On close inspection it reflects many colours of the spectrum.

I do admire the boldness and brutality of the hammered technique and design. The stylised ram is reminiscent of neolithic art.

The earthenware beaker below is from the neolithic period c 5000 - 4000 B.C.E.

Whilst learning about neolithic art in art history classes. I was blown away with the richness of their intellectual and artistic pursuits within the neolithic cultural heritage.

Collectors of this copper art style are attracted to the works of Curtis Jeré. The name is a compound nom-de-plume of artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels. The two founders combined pieces of their own names to create the C. Jeré signature. An example below is a 1977 piece titled Firmament.

Vintage Vixen and Vamps Fair VI

Once again, Vintage Space was a stall holder at the Vintage Vixen and Vamps Fair that was held at the Fremantle Town Hall on Sunday, 26th May 2013.

A fabulous time was had by all with vintage styled entertainment and vintage treasures galore. With the explosion of vintage fairs abound, this is one fair where true vintage pieces are found. I do wish I went shopping for myself at the beginning of the fair once I discovered  the bargains that were found.

Here is a photo of the majestic town hall, taken from the stage. The audience were being thrilled by swing dancers at the time.

The most popular vintage item from my stall was this 1950s men's felt fedora. Tried on by many a person, young and old. Purchased by a young man who was new to the vintage scene. Luckily his girlfriend is educating him to the finer things in life.

Looking for forward to Vintage Vixen and Vamps Fair VII.

Which Vintage Era Floats Your Boat?

I love this photo of morphing styles through the decades.

Personally, I feel most comfortable in the mid 60's, as the last picture shows. Although I do admire how graceful the 1950s shape is and feel with the passing of time it is a more pleasing look in hindsight. How do you feel?

Annette Funicello

Annette Funicello waves a final goodbye today.

Annette Joanne Funicello

October 22, 1942 - April 8, 2013.

American actress and singer. Annette was an original "mouseketeer" part of the Mickey Mouse Club during the 1950s.

My memories are the "Beach Party" genre movies where she co-starred alongside Frankie Avalon in the 1960s.

I am sure they fueled my desire for the perfect 60s swimsuit. Never got the hair quite right. Takes such an effort and lots of hairspray!

How cute is this early 60s photo, wearing kitten heels on a scooter!

Vintage Hats

On my to do list - wear more vintage hats!

I thought I would share a few photos I took today of a few of the vintage hats I have for sale.

It is so hard to part with vintage treasures but I do know they mainly go to good homes! Especially this emerald green felt 1970s felt hat. This one may find its way back into my personal collection!

Absolutely love this 1960s ruffled white hat with back bow detail. I imagine it was custom made for a wedding. In excellent condition. Looks great on a dark haired girl.

Guilford Heritage Festival

Okay, big apologies for the delayed post! Here goes. This month I will be involved with Miss Johnson's Vintage and Handmade Markets at the Guildford Heritage Festival.

Which is to take place in Stirling Square, Guildford on Sunday March 24th from 10am to 4pm. Above is a photo of the town hall, the park is adjacent over the train lines.

This event is a free community celebration of Guildford’s historical significance to the development of Perth.
The festival allows the community to come together to showcase the activities of local organisations working actively to preserve the regions heritage. Throughout the day visitors will experience a novel glimpse into, as well as an appreciation of the history, cultural activities and everyday living from a bygone era.

Vintage Space will be offering a fabulous selection of vintage collectables, records, comics and books with a splash of vintage fashion and accessories. As shown below.
