Poncho madness

Yay, the cooler weather is here for us in Australia. The cardigans are out and I have gone poncho crazy.

In the 1990s, I designed a simple South American style poncho that was reversible and made from vintage fabrics. They sold like hot cakes and I have worn the one I made for myself every winter since. On the look out for a replacement poncho I was ever so happy to find this beauty.

1960s Poncho from Blue Bird Vintage

Purchased from the Vintage Vixen and Vamp Fair from the lovely Deb of Blue Bird Vintage.

So it is back to the designing table for me as I am to adapt my original poncho design to a shorter style. Oh the possibilities. Hopefully you will see my new designs soon.

1970s poncho
Here is a sweet vintage poncho/cape I have for sale in my shop.

Details include a button front, pom-poms, collar, cable knit front and a fringe trim. Lovely light cornflower blue colour. Label - made in Mexico. In excellent vintage condition, looks as new. Made of super soft thick acrylic yarn.

Vintage Children's Book Records

This is my children's collection of vintage book records. My husband was very clever as to rip the vinyl 45s onto one CD disc. This way there are no scratched records or assistance needed by the young ones with a turntable. The truth is, we have expensive DJ turntables the children are not allowed to touch! The recording also captures the static, crackling, old record sound.

The earliest record book we own is the Saggy Baggy Elephant, a Little Golden Book & Record. MCMXLVII, 1947. I did have to renew my roman numeracy skills, I must admit!

Here is a vintage 1970s Fisher Price Children's turntable. I remember being envious of the family across the road who owned a Fisher Price turntable.

Maybe you too are old enough to feel nostalgia for vintage record books!

R.I.P Vidal Sassoon

Respect goes out to the belated Vidal Sassoon (17 January 1928 – 9 May 2012).

Vidal Sassoon rose to prominence in London's swinging 1960's.  Known for creating in 1963 a short, angular hairstyle cut on a horizontal plane that was the recreation of the classic bob.

His style was modelled by the 1960s iconic fashion designer Mary Quant.

Due to the popularity of his styles, he was described as "a rock star, an artist, [and] a craftsman who 'changed the world with a pair of scissors.

Modelled by Grace Coddington the classic Five Point Cut.

He will be remembered as one of the world’s most creative coiffures.

Vintage clothing, sustainable fashion, parades, coffee, cakes and treats, entertainment and MORE!
Doors 12pm - 5pm. Entry $3
Cash only market

Vintage Space will be stall 20 and I will be taking a wonderful selection of winter vintage clothes, comics and records.

This is a very busy market  with the best vintage sellers Perth has to offer. The old Freo town hall is such a majestic building, the perfect place for a vintage market. I must admit I am happy that the Vintage Vixens and Vamps Fair offers genuine vintage for sale, no retro and repro stalls.
